R.I.P. Leroy Sievers 8/16/2008

It seems so simple and understandable, that this should affect me so profoundly, and take me by surprise two days later. It is more than just the obvious parallels--like my father, Leroy's cancer began as colon cancer, Leroy and I are the same age.  I've never talked to anyone about listening to his podcasts, reading his blog--I don't even remember hearing it on the radio before I stumbled across it in the NPR podcasts.  After he stopped the podcasts, after a surgery last fall, I followed the blog more devotedly.  I left a couple comments when something or other he wrote gave me some clarity in understanding what my dad was going through.  He had only recently made the choice to engage hospice care, but it still seemed that he had a lot of 'life' left in him.  So it was with considerable shock that I read moments ago the announcement on Saturday of his death.

I didn't know his professional work, I only knew him as another resident of Cancer World, one who made the world a better place through his thoughts and words.  I shall miss him.

My dad's phone will be disconnected at the end of this week, and while it may seem a little silly, some of us kids would really like to have a recording of his outgoing phone message.

Does anyone know how we can "download" that recording and save it as a digital sound file?

Good luck on your test today!

"Remember, you don't have to go anywhere, you don't have to get anything. Nothing needs to change. You are exactly where you need to be; you're doing exactly what you need to do. You can know this is true because this is where you are, and this is what you are doing. When you know this, everything becomes your teacher."

May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts.
May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet of  $100 bills.
May love stick to your face like Vaseline.
May laughter assault your lips!
May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires
May happiness slap you across the face
May your tears be that of joy.
May the problems you had forget your home address!
In simple words ............

May 2008 be the best year of your life!!!

[info]ronin_rabbit and I are planning to buy a new sofa. We've *never* had a brand new sofa.
Is there anyone on my/our friends list who has had experience with Wickes furniture?  Any cautions or kudos you can share?

The number of clicks (books, bowls of food, mammograms, etc.) really drops over the weekend and is already dropping because of this holiday week.

Keep clicking, whether it's breast cancer awareness month--literacy month, pet rescue month, whatever--or not!

washing machine repair - any suggestions?

Can you recommend a repair service for a washing machine (in the San Gabriel Valley)? I'm pretty sure I know what's wrong (direct drive coupling broken), but not how to fix it.
